("OUTLINE OF CSD PH.D. PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS")

I.5. Teaching Requirement

During the academic career, each student must complete at least 4 units as a teaching assistant [TA] or instructor for courses in Computer Science numbered 100 or above. One unit is 10 hours per week for one quarter.

I.5.1 Distinction in Teaching

For students with a special interest in teaching, there is an additional specialization: "with Distinction in Teaching". This certifies significant experience in teaching upon conferral of the degree. For this designation a student must, in addition to the 4 units minimum requirement, do the equivalent of 10 units of TA/TF with the following restrictions:

a) The units must include at least one quarter as a TF [Teaching Fellow] with primary responsibility for organizing and teaching a course (tutored video does not qualify).

b) The units must include at least one course at each of the 100, 200 and 300-plus levels.
