Rapid Transport Beta Testers

Category:

If you own an Android phone, I can use your help to beta test the "Rapid Transport" app that I've been working on. This app shows the current information about the Rapid transportation (bus locations, arrival times at bus stops, ...). The app relies on a live data feed that gets updated once in 90 seconds (yikes!), due to limitations of the radio communication used on the buses. For the next release, I am planning to make the app "smarter" by including a feature to interpolate the bus locations during the 90-sec period of silence.

Anyway, I do hope that you are willing to be a beta tester. Please send your bug/error reports, and suggestions for further improvements in person or by email.

Download the app to your phone or scan the following QR code ("Barcode Scanner" or similar app required). To install, your Android phone must be setup to allow app installation from unknown sources (Menu => Settings => Applications => Unknown Sources). You are encouraged to share the app with your friends, families, and classmates  via the "Share App" button from the menu.

GVSU "Snowday" & Android Event

I'm glad we had a "snow day" today so I could follow the Android Event that Google had at 1pm EST (10am PST). Otherwise, I would have been in class and missed the entire event. It is interesting to see that only two days after Wozniak's comment about I/O as the biggest change in computer, the Android's team showed how Honeycomb handles multi-hand and multi-touch gestures. Watch the YouTube video below and fast forward to about 5 min into the presentation.
