CIS Computing Club – The Computing Club consists of GVSU students interested in expanding their computing skills and knowledge outside the classroom. This includes learning new programming languages and techniques, as well as interacting with companies. It’s also a great place to meet other like-minded students! Currently, the club is focusing on interacting with companies to get advice from professionals in the work force. Additionally, we encourage members to work together in small groups on side projects to explore interests outside classroom projects. For more information on the group please contact Dr. Gregory Schymik at schymikg@gvsu.edu.

CIS Student Ethics Group – The GVSU CIS Ethics group was formed in the Winter semester of 2006. The mission of this group is to study and promote ethical behavior to CS, IS and IT students. Some of the actions we plan to take in order to accomplish this mission include classroom visits, and the distribution of an online survey to determine the ethical attitudes of students. Please feel free to contact us if you have suggestions or comments, or if you are interested in joining the group all communication can be directed through Dr. Jonathan Leidig at jonathan.leidig@gvsu.edu.

Women in Computing Group – This organization provides mentoring and professional development opportunities for women interested in computing. We host Tech Talks given by women in the field and work with schools in the community to host coding workshops for girls. Any major is welcome. You can contact the group at wic@mail.gvsu.edu.

GVSU Hackers Analyzing Threats (HAT) – The HAT Club consists of GVSU students interested in expanding their cyber-security skills and knowledge outside the classroom. This includes learning offensive and defensive techniques to protect your network and data from cyber criminals. We share information about hackathons and other local events. It’s also a great place to meet other like-minded students! If you are interested in this group please contact Dr. Vijay Bhuse at vijay_bhuse@gvsu.edu.
